The needs in our local community can often come into focus in our school system.
Families can sometimes struggle to get the required support and interventions for their children with additional learning needs. Early intervention with a school child can have a radical outcome on this child’s education and their welfare.
However, Primary and Secondary schools may have limited access due to budget constraints and so families may have to turn to private providers for such support. The cost of this is often beyond the limited resources of many families.
Galway Lions Club work with local schools to identify families with those limited resources. If certain criteria are met funding may be provided to undertake educational assessments for children which may result in the school providing additional educational supports to help these children achieve their full potential.
Our fundraising often enables us provide donations of toys to some Primary schoolchildren. Following a recent donation one Peimary school teacher wrote afterwards:
I just wanted to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Galway Lions Club for thinking of us for the toy donation. The joy that the children showed upon receiving the toy was fabulous. All these things make such differences to these families.
